Malta’s industrial production declined by 1.5% year-on-year in June 2026, reversing an upwardly revised 1.0% increase in May. Manufacturing output fell by 1.4%, after a 1.4% rise in the previous month, as reduced production of food products (-0.6%) and chemical and pharmaceutical products (-1.4%) more than offset a sharp increase in wood, paper products and printing (9.0%).

By main industrial grouping, output weakened further for consumer goods (-7.6% vs -3.8% in May) and non-durable consumer goods (-6.8% vs -5.9%), while production of durable consumer goods swung to a 15.0% contraction from a 15.1% expansion. In contrast, the pace of decline moderated for capital goods (-2.9% vs -7.4%) and energy (-3.5% vs -6.8%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, total industrial production fell by 0.6% in June, following a downwardly revised 5.0% drop in May.
