In January 2026, Vietnam witnessed a significant increase in disbursed foreign direct investment (FDI), totaling USD 1.68 billion, an 11.3% rise compared to the USD 1.51 billion recorded in the same month the previous year. This growth highlights the ongoing expansion of foreign business activities within the country. However, the overall registered FDI experienced a sharp decline of 40.6%, falling to USD 2.57 billion. This decrease was primarily driven by a 67.4% reduction in additional capital and a 38.6% decline in capital from share acquisitions. Conversely, newly registered capital saw a positive trend, increasing by 15.7% to reach USD 1.489 billion across 349 projects, with the number of projects rising by 23.8%.

Sector-wise, manufacturing and processing dominated with a 76.3% share of the investment, followed by real estate at 9.7%, information and communications at 5.2%, wholesale and retail trade at 4.8%, and professional activities at 2.2%. Singapore emerged as the leading investor, contributing 41.5% of the total registered capital, with South Korea, China, and Japan also playing significant roles. According to the Ministry of Finance, this data demonstrates a sustained level of investor confidence, reflecting the global shifts in supply chains.
